Airplane travel vacationWith schools closed this week for March Break many people are away from the area to catch some sunshine and warm temperatures.

Chris Mayne of Mayne Travel says the low Canadian Dollar has dominated the travel industry throughout the winter and affected where people went to get away.

He says places like Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Mexico were the popular destinations.

Still he says people are going to Florida despite the money loss on the dollar exchange because it’s something they always wanted to do.

He says they are trying to make up for it other ways like saving money on the hotel they stay at.

Mayne says things could change next year as far as Cuba goes as Americans may want to go there and that would increase prices.

Mayne says the Sunwing trip from North Bay to a resort in Cuba isn’t getting a lot of play this week as it leaves on Wednesdays and most people if they’re off during March Break want to leave on a Friday or the weekend.

Mayne says islands like Barbados and Aruba remain tied to the US dollar so they’re not as attractive as other years but still get some business.
