Powassan Voodoos_210The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners were able to fight past the Powassan Voodoos last night with a 2-1 win in Game 1 of the NOJHL East Division semifinal.

The opening period was scoreless, and while the second saw plenty of action, it was still a 0-0 game going into the third.

That’s when the Gold Miners opened the scoring with a goal from Brayden Stortz.

Powassan captain Jake Staples then lead an attack 54 seconds before the end, tieing up the game forcing overtime.

Stortz would then score the final goal of the game for Kirkland Lake.

The Gold Miners also out shot the Voodoos 60-52.

Game 2 of the series goes tonight in The Powassan Sportsplex at 7 p.m.
