capitolcentre_210x1552015 was a success for the Capitol Centre.

Officials say after a slow start with deficits in the first three quarters they ended the year with a $40,000 surplus on a $1.7-million budget.

They say big name shows like Col. Chris Hadfield and Gordon Lightfoot, along with a successful Christmas season all helped push the financials into the black.

Past president of the Capitol Centre Board of Directors Blake Beam says they also earned money through Christmas parties and weddings.

The annual golf tournament and the 19th annual Wine Gala were also said to be extremely successful.

36,767 tickets were sold to events at the Capitol Centre, generating $923,243 in revenue.  About 25% were sold online.

Blake says they have moved the money into an account designed for special projects.

He says they are planning to build a new sound system to replace their current one which has been there since the 1980s.

The Capitol Centre is a not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to provide diverse programming in both performing and visual arts for the community.
