The clean-up and repairs are underway after 25 empty cars on an Ontario Northland freight train derailed about 9.6 kilometres northeast of North Bay.

The train had 58 cars in total.

ONTC Communications Manager Renée Baker says the incident happened around 5:30 this morning (Tuesday).

Meantime, the City says Highway 63 is now open to all traffic.

Belinda Lefebvre was evacuated from her home because of the derailment.

Lefebvre also says the trains are usually loud when they go by, but today sounded different.

There’s no word on a cause at this point.
