(Photo courtesy OPP) Work continues just outside of North Bay to clear out the 25 ONTC rail cars which derailed yesterday morning (Tuesday).

Mayor Al McDonald says all crews did a great job, no injuries were reported and there is no current damage to the surrounding environment; although three families had to be evacuated from their homes at the time of the incident.

McDonald says the families affected have been given accommodations for the duration of the cleanup process, which could take up to a week.

He added two of the families could move back home right away if they were comfortable to do so.

McDonald says the rail cars were empty and there was no leakage detected, although there could be some residue left over of whatever the cars were carrying.

He says further assessment will be done to ensure there was nothing leaked into the environment or the drinking water.

Highway 63 was closed a couple of times on Tuesday after the derailment, but re-opened in the afternoon.
