oil and waterA new report released this week from Environmental Defence says the drinking water of over five million Canadians, including residents in North Bay, would be threatened by the proposed Energy East pipeline.

Several groups are involved in the report including Northwatch.

Spokesperson Brennain Lloyd says the report solidifies concerns that some people have already expressed and will be helpful for those who may have been unsure.

She says it’s a direct risk, and North Bay is a very direct risk with the pipeline close to Trout Lake, the city’s drinking water source.

Lloyd also says while the report only looks at drinking water, there’s also concern with other uses too.

She points to agricultural uses in Temiskaming District.
