NVMNThis week is National Volunteer Week and volunteers in the Nipissing District were the focus of an event hosted by the Nipissing Volunteer Managers Network.

The Network wanted to thank volunteers for helping keep our sidewalks clean, run recreational sports, plant flowers at the waterfront, and more.

They are a relatively new organization with a goal of supporting volunteer driven organizations in the area.

They also unveiled a Mission statement at the event that said “To foster excellence in volunteer management through peer support and professional development, in an effort to advance the value of volunteerism in the Nipissing District.”

Ciara Deschamps is the Community Coordinator for United Way Sudbury and Nipissing Districts and she says they meet monthly and supports its members by sharing resources and helping the organizations grow.

She says 20 local agencies are involved in the network, including the YMCA, One Kids Place, and the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

She says they look after almost 1800 area volunteers.
