casselholmeThe Canadian Union of Public Employees is continuing its campaign to keep Cassellholme as a municipal long term care home.

The Cassellholme board is considering changing the operation to a non-profit, something that the President of the North Bay and District Labour Council is not in favor of.

Henri Giroux says “this is our home” and the best way to run it is as a municipal home.

Giroux made his comments outside of Cassellholme at a noon hour rally Monday.

He says he’s worked there for 37 years.

Giroux suggests Cassellholme board members visit non-profit and for-profit homes to see the difference from a municipally run operation.

Meantime, North Bay City Councillor Chris Mayne is the board chair of Cassellholme.

He says the care of residents wouldn’t change because it ‘ll be the same workers who will be providing that care.

Mayne says regardless of the model, the long-term care home will remain publicly funded.
