International exchange trip coming for local high school student

Local student Hannah Bywater is headed to either Zurich or Geneva in Switzerland as part of the exchange student designate program.

It is run through district Rotary Clubs and after an extensive questionnaire and interview process,

Bywater says she was one of 12 students selected in the district.

She says this experience will not count towards her school credits.

Bywater says “it is a cultural and language exchange so it’s more focused on learning the language and being able to experience different cultures.”

Bywater says the goal is for students to immerse themselves in different cultures to help foster a global understanding of all cultures.

She says she’ll find out soon if it’s Zurich or Geneva but knows for sure she’ll be headed to Switzerland.

Bywater says she’s excited for the opportunity and has been studying a lot of German, which she’ll have to speak more of if she ends up in Zurich.

Geneva has more of a French speaking base.
