GymtrixProvTeam16(Submitted) Over 600 artistic gymnasts from across the province qualified for last weekend’s Ontario Gymnastics Championship in Toronto, including five from Gymtrix in North Bay.

On the Women’s side, Emily Mah claimed the Silver Medal for the Vault event with a huge score of 9.6 narrowly missing the Gold medal by .05 in the Level 6 (Age 13) division.

Elated coach Marc Pilon stated “It was such a tight race right from the start of the competition. We could not be more pleased with Emily’s Silver performance”.

Mah also received the prestigious ‘Judges Special Award’ for the most dynamic Vault in the category.

Also representing North Bay Gymtrix at the finals were Rebecca Hubley and Jesslynn Emms who competed in the Level 6 (16 years and older) division.

In the Balance Beam event Hubley scored 9.4 and Emms received 9.1 placing them 8th and 11th respectively in the Beam competition.

“These are phenomenal scores. Any score above a 9.0 is considered significant to receive at Provincial Championships” said coach Tara Alger.

Male gymnasts Jo-zef Mathieu competed in the Provincial Level 1 (9 years) division and placed 11th in the Vault event with a score of 9.2.

Jack Mah competed in the Provincial Level 2 (11 years) category and was ranked 16th in the Vault event after judges awarded a score of 9.1.

Coach Bill Rhoads said “Both boys are first year Championship competitors and had event rankings in the top half which is amazing considering that they were competing against a massive number of veteran competitors.”

Meantime, three gymnasts from North Bay Gymtrix competed in the Birchmount Friendship Classic on April 1 and 2 in Toronto.

Tessa Tripodi (age 10) hit the top of the podium winning Gold medals on both Floor Exercise and Balance Beam and the Silver medal in the Uneven Bar event in the Level 6 division.

Tripodi‘s scores on these three events were big enough to earn her the Silver medal overall (all event scores combined).

In the Level 4 division, Koral Tench (age 11) earned a Bronze medal in the Vault event and a Silver medal in the Floor Exercise competition.

Kaylee Tench (age 11) made a big jump from Level 4 to Level 6 for this competition and placed an impressive 4th place in all four events as well as Overall.

The trio also picked up the Birchmount Friendship Classic 2016 ‘Team Presentation Award’.
