Grant LoveNorth Bay will be getting a new fire chief next year.

Grant Love has announced he will be retiring in the New Year and by then he will have served 30 years in the department and the last 8 as chief.

He says it’s time to leave and give someone else a chance. He says the department and the community have been very good to him over the years but it’s time to do other things.

He says the fires that stand out for him are The Richardson Fire, The Lefebvre Fire , The Parkview Hotel Fire and the Frank and Freddies Fire.

Love says that’s because of the magnitude of the fires and the impact of them on the community.

Love’s final day of work will be July 29th.

He says he’s seen how the community responds to major fires and emergencies in a positive way over the years and it feels good to know he’s played a role in helping with that effort.
