Serenity Hospice 1Mathilde Bazinet says they are working towards their goal of building a hospice in North Bay.

The Chair of Nipissing Serenity Hospice says they met with members of the Canadian Federation of University Women today (Wednesday) to discuss how groups can help in the process.

Bazinet says they will always need volunteers. She says “that’s how hospices are able to operate at a third of the cost than it would cost to operate in a hospital.”

Bazinet says they also continue their fundraising efforts.

Last month, they had raised half of their target goal of $6-million.

The hospice will be located close to Laurier Woods off John Street and is expected to be open in 2017.

She says the biggest challenge will be generating funding but she says they are very optimistic after seeing the response from people both inside and outside of North Bay.
