Hep berriesThe North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit says there are no reported cases of Hepatitis A in the district resulting from the Costco recall of frozen berries.

Officials say the affected product, Nature’s Touch Organic Berry Cherry Blend have best before dates up to and including March 15th.

Medical Officer of Health Dr Jim Chirico says, “Although we do not yet have a reported case of Hepatitis A in our district as a result of the recalled frozen berries, it is important for the public not to consume the recalled product and if they already have, it is important for them to seek vaccination, monitor for signs and symptoms and seek medical attention if necessary.”

The Health Unit says if you ate the product and have not previously been vaccinated against Hepatitis A, you should get the vaccine as soon as possible.

A public health nurse will be available at the Health Unit to assess individual situations and determine the need for a vaccination. Call 705-474-1400 or 1-800-563-2808 ext. 2252.

Officials say if you ate the product and have symptoms of Hepatitis A, contact your health care provider.

Symptoms  usually begin 15 to 50 days after becoming infected and include: fever, stomach pain, dark urine, nausea and vomiting, tiredness, loss of appetite, jaundice and clay or ash-coloured bowel movements.
