The OFSAA Badminton Championships get underway in North Bay today (Thursday).

Co-Convenor Guy Horth says there are over 320 athletes in town.

Horth says they are competing in men’s and women’s singles and doubles, as well as mixed competition.

He says they have seen some growth in the sport of badminton locally, over the last few years, especially at the high school level.

Horth says this event could also have an impact on more players signing up for club level badminton.

Games take place at both Nipissing University’s and Canadore College’s respective gyms.

The finals take place on Saturday.

Still with high school sports, in NDA varsity girls soccer Widdifield scored a 2-1 win over Chippewa while St Joseph-Scollard Hall shutout Algonquin 2-0.

In senior boys, Chippewa defeated Algonquin 5-2 and SJSH won 3-0 over Widdifield.
