The residential tax rate is expected to decrease by 3%.

Chief Financial Officer Margaret Karpenko says they got to that number through the $80-million tax levy as well as the city wide weighted average assessment.

Karpenko says it’s the same ratios used in 2015 and if used again in 2016 the city will get that residential tax rate decrease.

However, she says it won’t mean every resident will see a decrease.

She says the average residential household seems to be increasing about 4.4% so their tax bill will increase by just over 1%. So if your assessment did not change you will have a decrease.

Karpenko says that amounts to around 2500 residents getting a decrease, if council approves this recommendation next Monday.
