Elections Canada vote

With electoral reform top of mind across Canada, proportional representation is the focus of an event tonight (Monday) in North Bay.

The Green Party is hosting the session at St Andrew’s Church and has invited Fair Vote Canada to speak.

Fair Vote Canada Action coordinator Anita Nickerson says with the Trudeau government announcing a committee to look at changes to the electoral system, it’s important for everyone to have their say.

She says the concern with first-past-the-post is that it doesn’t represent the voices of the majority of Canadians and they want to fix that.

Nickerson also says about 9 million ballots cast in the last election had no impact on the outcome which is an anomaly, if you look around the world.

The doors open to tonight’s event at 630 pm.
