A group of Cassellholme workers came to city council this week, but they didn’t make a presentation.

Henri Giroux works at Cassellholme, in addition to being the President of the North Bay and District Labour Council.

He says while the board is being silent about its future plans they decided to be silent during the meeting.

He says they wanted to show the board, which has city council representation, that they don’t like the silence on the non-profit issue.

Giroux says the home if it becomes a non-profit it would no longer be municipally run.

Board chair Chris Mayne has previously said that wouldn’t be the case.

He said in April there is no consideration being given to privatize Casselholme and if they go the non-profit route, municipalities would still contribute to the home for up to 20 years.

He said any board decision won’t be made until next week and then the province will make the final decision on Cassellholme becoming a non-profit.

Giroux will be making a presentation at next week’s meeting.
