This year’s local JUMP Rope for Heart campaign, in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, raised $65,800.

23 area schools took part with Sunset Park raising the most money, over $11,600.

“I am very aware of the fact that there are many demands on our schools, teachers, students, and parents,” says Julia Tignanelli, Heart and Stroke’s Area Coordinator for North Bay and Nipissing District.

She goes on to say, “The fact that schools continue to come back to a program like JUMP Rope for Heart after more than 30 years does not go unrecognized. The rates of childhood obesity and juvenile diabetes are continually becoming a national epidemic; encouraging Canadian youth to be active and form heart healthy habits at a young age is crucial, and we are so grateful to have the support of our local educators and families.”

Funds raised go towards a number of initiatives like programs and research including the placement of AEDS, with over 50 of the units in North Bay.
