NORCECA beach volleyball

Great marks from the athletes and Volleyball Canada with this past weekend’s 3rd annual NORCECA beach volleyball event in North Bay.

VSE Canada President Amedeo Bernardi says the athletes enjoyed the event and the venue, but that’s not all. “They loved the city, our volunteers drove some of them around to go check out the sites.”

He goes on to says, “It was nice to hear Volleyball Canada came up to us after and said they had a lot of great comments from the athletes hoping to come back.”

Meantime, Bernardi says events like this really thrive on community support, pointing out they have new bleachers in place.

He’s encouraging people to check out a couple more major events they have lined up for this summer and says while beach volleyball may not be a common sport in the area or Canada, it’s a “party atmosphere” and really exciting.

He says, “these athletes absolutely love when the hometown crowd comes out to cheer them on, especially all the Canadian teams that were here.”

There’s a Grand Slam beach volleyball tournament during Summer In The Park plus there’s the Sunshine Games coming up at the end of August.

The Sunshine Games includes both the National Beach Volleyball Championship and a 3×3 basketball tournament, in association with Volleyball Canada, Basketball Canada, Nipissing University and the city.
