First quarter finances have been released by the Ontario government and the province says they continue to be on track with balancing the budget next year in fiscal 2017/18.

However, PC Finance Critic and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says it’s the one-time sale of Hydro One that’s painting the rosy picture.

“Their projections haven’t changed and that’s the bad news for Ontario because the Financial Accountability Officer told us that if they don’t begin to change we’re going to plunge back into deficit immediately after the 2018 election”, Fedeli said.

He also says the province is earning double the revenues since this government took office, but because of a spending problem they can’t grow out of it.

Fedeli says billions have been lost to mismanagement, scandal and waste.

He says if there’s growth every year and “ridiculous” spending is stopped, the province would grow out of the problem.
