A two-time Canadian Olympian swimmer was in the city on the weekend.

27 year old Martha McCabe met with CT-33 Thunderbirds on Saturday (pictured below) and with North Bay Y Titans swimmers on Sunday (pictured above).

She’s on a 26 city tour from Victoria, B.C., to her hometown of Toronto. “It’s just a matter of sharing my story, letting them know that you’re going to face challenges no matter how good you are. You always go through ups and downs and my whole purpose is to try to teach them to fight through those downs.”

McCabe also got in the water with the swimmers and conducted technical drills, offered unique techniques and personal demonstrations too.

But, she says the visit was more than that, “Meet me and get to know that I’m a person just like them, I hang out with my friends just like they do. I do all the same things they do, it’s just I’ve committed myself to this goal.”

She goes on to say, “if they find what it is they’re good at and passionate about, they can also reach pretty high levels in whatever they choose.”

McCabe competed for Canada in 200m breaststroke in London 2012 and Rio 2016.

She won silver in the event at the Pan Am Games in Toronto in 2015.
