Another busy Friday in local sports.

The North Bay Battalion won 6-5 in overtime in Sudbury.

Adam McMaster scored in the extra frame to give the Troops the win.

Julian Sime (pictured) made 28 saves en route to his first OHL win, in his second start for the Battalion.

Daniil Vertiy scored twice, with singles from Kyle Potts, Justin Brazeau and Brett Hargrave.

North Bay is now off until Thursday when they entertain Flint at Memorial Gardens.

 

The Powassan Voodoos survived a scare to win their 18th straight game on Friday night in Kirkland Lake.

The Goldminers led 3-0 after the first, but the Voodoos would score three of their own in the second, then the lone goal in the third to win the game.

Andy Baker, Gary Mantz, Parker Bowman and Tyson Gilmore scored for Powassan.

Gilmore was named NOJHL player of the month for November while Nate McDonald, who made 21 saves in last night’s win, was named goaltender of the month for November.

Powassan travels to Cochrane tonight.

 

In OUA men’s hockey, the Nipissing Lakers lost 4-3 in Windsor.

They play the Lancers again this afternoon.

Meantime, both Nipissing basketball teams won yesterday.

The Lakers women’s team won their first game of the season, 62-55 in Waterloo.

The Nipissing men were also playing in Waterloo and won  83-78.

Both Lakers teams take on Wilfred Laurier today.

 

At the NDA high school hockey tournament, both Chippewa and Widdifield are into this morning’s semifinals.

The Raiders won their quarterfinal over St Benedict 3-2 in double overtime and will play Confederation at 9:30 am.

Widdifield, meantime, advanced to play St Charles at 10:30 am after the Wildcats won their quarterfinal 6-3 over Chelmsford yesterday.

Both semifinals are being played at Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of admission, officials are accepting non-perishable food items or monetary donations for the North Bay Food Bank.
