Provincial Police say there’s been a troubling increase in deaths on Ontario roads.

Stats released by the OPP show there were 276 fatal motor vehicle collisions in 2016.

309 people were killed in the crashes.

In 2015, 301 people were killed in 262 collisions.

Police say their data suggests driver in-attention, speed, alcohol or drugs and lack of occupant restraint are the causes in 75 % of the fatal collisions.

That is down slightly from 77 % the year before.

Total off-road deaths are up from 14 to 23, pedestrian fatalities are up from 25 to 38 and marine-related deaths are up from 18 to 21.
