There was no change in the number of fatalities on roadways patrolled by Northeast Region OPP in 2016.

35 people lost their lives last year, the same as 2015.

Officials say driver behaviour is the big factor in most of these collisions.

That includes distracted driving, alcohol and drugs, speed and not wearing restraints.

Meantime, ATV-related deaths doubled to four in 2016, snowmobile fatalities remained the same at five while marine-related deaths were up one to 7 last year.

Two pedestrians were killed in 2016 in the Northeast Region.
