A North Bay high school student is concerned about the impact a super school will have on high school sports.

Cade Cardinal, speaking at an accommodations review committee public meeting this week, said it’ll be a lot harder to make sports teams than it is now.

He says that’s because West Ferris, Widdifield and Chippewa all have individual teams, but only the elite athletes will make the teams at a super school.

Cardinal says there will be opportunities lost for students who want to play team sports, but aren’t as talented as the elite athletes.

He adds the identity of students will get lost in a super school too, saying students identify themselves through their sports teams.

An Accommodations Review Committee is looking into the idea of merging Chippewa, West Ferris, and Widdifield into one new school on the Chippewa site.
