A successful season is over for the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team.

The Lakers lost 6-1 to Guelph in the McCaw Cup final on Saturday.

It was Nipissing’s first time in the championship game, in only their fourth season since the women’s hockey program started at the university.

The Lakers spent most of the season in the national top 10 rankings and finished second in the OUA standings.

 

The North Bay Battalion lost 6-0 in Barrie last night.

With four games left in the regular season, the 9th place Troops remain two points back of Niagara and three back of Sudbury.

North Bay travels to St Catharines to play the IceDogs this afternoon.

The North Bay AAA Trappers won game three of the Great North Midget League final 5-1 over the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves on Saturday.

Five different Trappers scored in the win.

The victory gives the Trappers a 2-1 lead in the best of five championship series.

Game four goes Tuesday, March 21st at the Counrtyside Arena in Sudbury.

If it’s needed, North Bay will host game five on Wednesday, March 22nd at Memorial Gardens.
