An update on an announcement in February about detectable levels of PFAS (Perfluoroalkylated substances) being found locally.

As a precautionary measure, the Department of National Defence says sampling of off-site water supplies, near the base, will be starting up April 6th.

This after the original testing of the base water supply well and three monitoring wells in the bedrock on the south side of 22 Wing CFB North Bay.

The detectable levels of PFAS found were all within Health Canada screening values for drinking water.

Officials say there is nothing, at this point, that indicates the presence of elevated levels of PFAS in drinking water, but they say precautionary sampling is important.

In a release, DND say they have been working closely with the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (Ontario) and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit to ensure water at 22 Wing North Bay and nearby is safe.
