Canada’s first female astronaut Dr. Roberta Bondar is coming to North Bay.

She’ll be here on May 10th to speak to students at West Ferris Secondary School about her photography contest she’s launched across northern Ontario.

It’s being held to mark Ontario’s 150th anniversary and her 25th anniversary since going to space.

The contest is called Earth Matters.

The project coordinator of the Ontario 150 Bondar Challenge is Donna Baker.

Baker says Bondar is an avid photographer with an emphasis on nature.

She says the contest calls on people to find a natural element in their community that they want to be here in 150 years.

Bondar has also announced plans to go to her hometown of The Sault, Timmins and Sudbury and 3 other northern centres.
