The North Bay Military Wives Choir is gearing up for a major event this fall.

The local choir is joining with Military Wives Choirs from across Canada to sing at the Opening Ceremonies for the Invictus Games September 23rd in Toronto.

President of the local club Rosanna Matheson says the voices of about 200 military wives and current and former Canadian Armed Forces members will come together for the event.

“We’re very, very proud to be able to give voice to our military wounded warriors that are competing at an international level against 17 other nations,” she says.

Matheson says the choir formed locally last September and it’s like a supportive sisterhood.

“Once a week we get together and we sing and laugh and we have fun and, you know, sometimes there’s a few tears involved if your family is going through a tough military time, are you being posted, are you moving this summer, or is your husband coming home from deployment anytime soon,” she adds.

The Invictus Games, created by Prince Harry, is a multi-sport event that is open to all wounded, injured and sick serving personnel and veterans.
