Schools already being considered for closure across Ontario are not getting a reprieve.

The province has announced a moratorium has been put in place stopping boards from putting any new schools up for potential closure.

This as the government overhauls the process in an effort to strengthen rural and northern education.

Education Minister Mitzie Hunter says it does not cover any schools already under consideration or recommended for closure.

That means three elementary schools the Near North Board voted to consolidate into one new build just this week will still go ahead along with the decision-making process involving three city high schools.
