North Bay Police report a couple of youth residents of the Nipissing Detention Centre are back in custody after they escaped the facility just after midnight Saturday.

Police say two staff members suffered non-life threatening injuries after being assaulted.

A vehicle that belongs to the centre was stolen, then located driving on Highway 17 West.

That’s where police deployed a spike belt and then arrested the pair.

The charges include:
– robbery
– assault
– choking
– mischief
– theft of motor vehicle
– possession of property obtained by crime

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act accused can not be named.

City police say they received assistance from the Anishinabek Police Service, West Nipissing Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police.
