Young local entrepreneurs are looking to kick start their future by running a summer business.

The Business Centre of Nipissing Parry Sound is funding start-up companies for 15 students between the ages of 15 and 29 this summer.

Each start-up can receive up to $3,000 and 2017 participant John Dejong says his school, West Ferris Secondary, approached him to give it a go this summer.

“The opportunity to show off and get our businesses out there is really important because a lot of us don’t have the right connections yet.”

The 15 year-old has started a drone services company to survey land, take environmental photos and inspect roofs. He says he hasn’t had too many customers as of yet but is hoping for a boom soon.

Chippewa Secondary student, Tikvah Tignanelli says her 24-hour pet services company already has calls with more on the way.

“It’s awesome because when you first start out you don’t realize how hard it is to get your name out there.

The Business Centre hosted their 9th annual Summer Company Tradeshow and Staples on Algonquin.
