The Rachel Homan team is synonymous with championship curling in Canada.

They have won three national championships in 5 Scotties Tournament of Hearts competitions and this past season won the Women’s World Championship for the first time.

They’ve also finished 2nd and 3rd.

Lisa Weagle (pictured) is lead on the team.

She says the Worlds, which will be in North Bay in March 2018, are exciting and intense, but they’re are a little bit bigger when they’re held in Canada.

“Having the crowd on your side and seeing the maple leaf everywhere gives your team a big boost. Even the other teams know it’s really special to play at a worlds in Canada because of the crowds we attract and the fans that we have,” she says.

This is a special year because there are two huge national competitions, the Olympic trials (also known as the Roar of the Rings) and the Scotties.

The trials winner goes to the games in South Korea and the Scotties winner will be coming to North Bay.

Weagle says there’s lots of depth in the women’s game.

“We’ve got a bunch of teams that could represent Canada very well at the Olympics or the World championships. The beauty of sport is that there are no guarantees and anyone can win,” she says.
