The North Bay Battalion hit the road this weekend riding a two-game winning streak.

The Troops shutout the defending Memorial Cup champion Windsor Spitfires 4-0 last night (Thursday) at Memorial Gardens.

Head Coach Stan Butler says he’s pleased with his team’s performance.

“I thought our effort was really good, I really liked our third period, I thought we played a full 60 minutes which is something we’ve really struggled to do.  It was nice to see the boys put that together,” he says.

New acquisition Nick King scored his first OHL goal, while Justin Brazeau (pictured) scored twice.

Andy Baker also scored for North Bay.

North Bay sent a conditional 15th-round pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection to Owen Sound in exchange for King.

Meantime, goaltender Christian Propp, acquired in a separate trade last weekend with Owen Sound, made his Battalion debut.

However, it was cut short early in the first period by a left knee injury.

He’s listed as day-to-day.

The Troops dealt defenceman Brady Lyle to the Attack for Propp.

The Battalion are on the road for their next six games, starting with Owen Sound tomorrow then Kitchener on Sunday.

In the NOJHL, the Powassan Voodoos are back on home ice tonight after a 1-1 tie on the road against Rayside Balfour last night.

The Voodoos entertain Kirkland Lake tonight at 7 o’clock at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The NDA senior football final goes tonight at St Joseph-Scollard Hall.

The Bears entertain the West Ferris Trojans at Cundari Field at 7 o’clock.

The junior football semifinals go tomorrow with West Ferris taking on Widdifield at the Omischl Complex at noon, while SJSH is home to Franco Cite at 2 pm.
