Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the North Bay area.

The agency says extreme wind chill values of minus 40 or below are expected to continue tonight (Wednesday).

However, wind chills will moderate during the daytime hours.

Official say extreme cold warnings are issued when there’s an elevated risk to health like frost bite and hypothermia because of very cold temperatures or wind chill.

Laurentian Ski Hill, meantime, will not be opening today because of the extreme cold.

Officials say they still have activities for Christmas Camps operating out of the upper lodge.
