North Bay Police regulate the taxi industry in the city and a town hall meeting on possible rate increases goes tonight (Mon) at city police headquarters.

This all has to do with the recent legislated increase in minimum wage.

Effective January 1, 2018 Ontario’s Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017, legislated a mandatory minimum wage increase from $11.60 an hour to $14 an hour for most employees, and a future increase to $15 an hour on January 01, 2019 and further to be followed by annual increases at the rate of inflation.

The session goes from 7 pm to 9 pm in the lower lecture room at North Bay Police Service headquarters on Princess Street.

The deadline to line up a presentation was last week.

City police say the goal of this meeting is to have an open, engaging and informational discussion about the impact new provincial legislation has had on the taxi owners and brokers and possible rate increases.

Any decisions regarding the proposed changes will be communicated at a later date.
