In OUA men’s playoff hockey, the Nipissing Lakers lost 4-3 in overtime to Queens last night (Wednesday) at Memorial Gardens.

The Lakers came back from one goal deficits twice in the game and forced overtime, but the Gaels would score in the extra frame to win game one of the best of three series.

Nipissing will now need to win twice on the road to extend their season.

The Lakers’ Deverick Ottereyes opened the scoring in first period last night before Queens took a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

In the third, Nipissing’s Brett Jeffries would even the score, but Queens would again take the lead, 3-2.

Brett Hargrave forced overtime, tying the game with 47 seconds left in regulation.

The Gaels then scored in overtime to win the game.

Game two of the series is tomorrow night (Friday) in Kingston.

Game three, if needed is on Saturday.
