North Bay OPP say a truck partly went through the ice Sunday afternoon on Lake Nipissing.

Police say the vehicle was attempting to cross an area near an island when it hit a pressure crack.

A tow truck was able to tow the vehicle to safety.

Police say it’s the responsibility of people who drive snow machines, atv’s and passenger vehicles to ensure the ice can support the vehicle.

They say ice safety can be impacted by many factors including thickness, pressure cracks and age of the ice and conditions can change rapidly.

Police say there have been recent cases of open water so use extreme caution.
