A North Bay Police officer who has been working child pornography cases for the last 5 years has received a commendation from the police services board.

D/Cst. Jason Long is moving on to a different role with the service.

Investigations he’s been involved with have resulted in 74 charges against 65 people. He says one case stands out.

“It took 18 months before I could identify the suspect and an arrest was made. That’s one I’ll always remember and be proud of,” he says.

Long has been with the service for 16 years.

He says on line child pornography can happen anywhere.

“We’ve sent some cases to the United States, overseas and we’ve made some arrests in our own community. With people being able to be anonymous on line it makes it easier for them to obtain and trade and pass this information along,” he says.

He describes some of the images he’s seen as indescribable.
