There’s only one unbeaten team left at the 2018 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship and it’s Canada.

Jennifer Jones’ rink earned two more wins to move atop the overall standings with an 8-and-0 record.

They defeated South Korea and Sweden by identical 8-4 scores on Wednesday.

“When you’re playing some of the top teams in the round robin you want to have good games against them in case it means something for the standings.  We knew we would have to play well and I thought we made a lot of big shots when we needed a big shot, and that’s really what the game is all about,” Jones says.

The team’s second Jill Officer says they have to keep the momentum going.

“We can’t really let up, it would be nice to finish strong so that we’re in a good spot, hopefully, going into the weekend,” she says.

Canada takes on Russia this morning (9 am) and Italy tonight (7 pm).

As for the event itself, Curling Canada’s Director of Communications and Media Relations, Al Cameron says the entire week is going great.

“What a spectacular job the city has done, you walk around downtown and see signs up and you come into the arena and there’s an absolute buzz in here,” he says. “From the World Curling Federation prospective they’ve been ecstatic at what’s happened and obviously Curling Canada is thrilled, as well.”

As for that buzz at Memorial Gardens…

“You hear that when there’s good shots (from) both teams, regardless if Canada is playing.  What has been really impressive is the fan attendance when Canada hasn’t been on the ice.  That’s really telling about the way these fans are supporting the Ford Worlds,” he says.
