An Almaguin Highlands student has won the OSSTF student achievement award.

It’s the highest honour the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation can bestow upon a student.

Bailee Harvie won the senior grades 11-12 college/workplace category in the prose or poetry division for her entry entitled ‘Overcoming Autism’.

She was supported by OSSTF/FEESO member Lisa Rogers.

“Bailee takes us on a poetic journey through her life as a young woman living with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Bailee shows us that through compassion, education and perseverance, students can be successful and can learn to advocate for themselves,” said OSSTF/FEESO President Harvey Bischof.

Each winning student received a cash prize of one-thousand dollars and a framed certificate.
