There are 3 people who will share this year’s Kiwanis Club of Nipissing’s citizen of the year award.

They’re the three vice chairs of the recently completed 2018 Ford World Women’s Curling championship.

One of the recipients is Dave Bennett.

He says the event gained a lot of momentum but it hit home for him at the opening ceremonies when the Mayor was introduced.

“He asked over 2,500 people to rise to their feet and give the athletes a standing ovation and that was a wow moment. We realized then we had something special,” he says.

The other co winners are Mark Brown and Rick Miller. Miller says they got involved for the sport and the city and they would do it again.

Bennett says their strategy all along was he would handle communications, Brown the accounting side and Miller the negotiating.

He they needed all those elements to make it work.
