The city is projecting an almost $11,000 surplus for this years Summer In The Park.

It’s a different event this year with indoor concerts at Memorial Gardens and outdoor activities at Thompson Park.

Councillor Mike Anthony likes the new plan where even if it rains it won’t impact decisions by people to go because the concerts are indoors.

“There were times when up to 50 % of wrist bands sold were sold on the day of the event. That’s a pretty big loophole to leave for people to get used to. When you’ve got a roof over it. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a band you’re interested in I’m not really worried about the rain,” Anthony says.

Anthony says this event has gone through some deficits in recent years and having an indoor location will help in getting people to buy in.

“Because moving it indoors could be a way to stop worrying about weather affecting sales as much. We still have to be conscious of budgets and I believe we gave our CAO sort of access to go above and beyond any cap on discretionary spending so to speak if that’s what it takes to sign an act,” he says.

The entertainers have been confirmed for Friday and that includes DNCE,Scott Helman, Jonothan Roy and a local band.

Silent Dance Party will also be indoors and no acts have been named for the Saturday.

Ticket prices for the indoor concerts vary depending on seat location from $40 to $100.

There’s also free daytime programming.
