Council has supported a motion to move $250,000 into the Community Improvement Plan reserve fund to meet current demands of the 3 Community Improvement Plans.

It’s also decided to include West Ferris into a long term report on the plans which right now cover the downtown, airport area and brownfields.

Councillor Derek Shogren says it’s important to have the long term plan ready to go for the new council early next year as it would take atleast 6 months to put together a West Ferris improvement plan.

“We’ll give a new council an opportunity to look at where the money is coming from. It’s going to cost some money to bring this program into West Ferris,” Shogren says.

Councillor Mike Anthony wants the city to public identify all the businesses that have been helped by the plans but he couldn’t get a seconder.

Right now he says that information is only revealed about the downtown recipients.

“We see municipal governments elsewhere publicizing when they’re able to help the community. We see the province and the federal government noting when they try to stimulate the economy or help the community. I don’t understand why we wouldn’t want to have the same openness,” he says.
