Ontario Monitor has released some interesting data from 2017 when it comes to speeches and word count for MPP’s at Queen’s Park last year.

From Question Period to Members Statements to introducing Private Members Bills, Nipissing’s Vic Fedeli gave 367 speeches in the Legislature last year.

That was the ninth most.

Premier Kathleen Wynne was tops at 867.

In terms of words spoken, Fedeli was fourth with over 112,000 words delivered.

Nickel Belt’s Frances Gelinas spoke the most words, just shy of 135,000.

In a release, Ontario Monitor says they used their database of Hansard (the official record of the Ontario Legislature) 30,000 plus speeches from the last full year (2017).

They go on to say while the data makes no claim to measuring the quality of Members of Provincial Parliament contribution it does indicate the volume of their contribution.
