Earlier this year, we told you about a neighborhood group that wasn’t too happy with councils decision to approve a rezoning proposal on Janey Avenue.

They’ve taken their fight to the local planning appeal tribunal which has replaced the Ontario Municipal Board.

City Council met on this in camera last night and North Bay Mayor Al McDonald addresses what’s next.

“It was a direction for staff to defend the council position on the decision on the approval of the Janey subdivision,” McDonald says.

He says council made a decision and it’s the right of any citizen to object by appealing and they’re now directing staff to defend council’s position.

In February, several area residents said 71 new lots would create safety issues throughout the neighborhood as putting in an intersection would be part of the project.

Tara Blake told us there are concerns now and having more traffic will make things worse.

In February, Community Services committee chair Mark King says there had been some adjustments to the proposal by the developer but no agreement was reached with the neighborhood as they remain unhappy with council’s decision.
