Saturday July 7th will be Girls Basketball Day in the Bay.

The Nipissing Lakers Women’s Basketball program is partnering with Ontario Basketball to host the inaugural event.

The day will include a coach’s clinic along with an All-Girls basketball clinic for ages 7 to 11 and 12 to 16.

The event is being held in conjunction with the U14, U15 and U17 Team Ontario girls training camp taking place at the Surtees Athletic Centre July 3-8.

Coaching Clinic Details

Theme – “How to Coach the Female Athlete”
*note this clinic will not be sport specific, coaches leading female athletes in any discipline are welcome to attend.*

Lead Clinician – Lindsay Walsh
From Truro, Nova Scotia, Lindsay Walsh has been sharing her passion for basketball development throughout Ontario as Director of Basketball Development since 2011. In addition to her full time work, Walsh is a member of the Ontario University Sport Panel of Officials and most recently officiated at the Canadian College Athletic Association National Championships. Walsh completed her Master’s Degree in Human Kinetics at the University of Windsor with a focus on Sport Psychology, specifically examining the psychological skills used by Canadian Basketball officials. She also received a Bachelor of Education Degree as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of New Brunswick. She had an illustrious five year Canadian University Sport playing career which was capped off by being named the CanWest rookie of the year while playing for the University of Alberta. Walsh then transferred closer to home, representing the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds at AUS and CIS Championships.

– 12pm to 1pm – Lunch provided and round table discussion with Team Ontario Coaches

Assistant Clinicians
Team Ontario Girl’s assistant coaches and athletes as well as Nipissing University Women’s Basketball coaches and players.

Ages
The clinic will be broken down in to two age divisions which will include:
– 7 to 11 year old females
– 12 to 16 year old females

Time
– 10am to 12pm – On court skills clinic
– 12pm to 1pm – Lunch provided and interaction with Provincial Team Athletes
– 1pm – Observation of Team Ontario Girls Intrasquad Game
