The Capitol Centre’s roof will be replaced starting tomorrow (Monday).

Katina Connolly is Director of Business Operations.

She says the four month project is going to cost about $500,000.

That’s about $250,000 more than expected because officials discovered a second roof on top of the original one installed in 1929.

“The current roof was put in 32 years ago when they did the renovations on the centre before it became the Capitol Centre, and it has outlived its life span,” she says.

Matheson says coupled with the line array project at the Capitol Centre earlier this year there, will be $1 million in dollars in improvements to the facility this year.

They have received over $400,000 from federal and provincial sources and local funds are coming from their major capital plan.

Connolly says most of the work will be done during the day and won’t impact any events.

“There will be a little flexibility on our part and the part of the contractor should anything come up last minute but ultimately our evening performances won’t be impacted,” Connolly says.

Parking will be impacted during the project..
