The Ontario government is announcing details on an independent inquiry into the Liberal government’s spending.

Premier Doug Ford says former BC Premier Gordon Campbell will head the Commission of Inquiry, which will issue a public report on its findings by the end of next month.

Ford also announced the province is taking bids from outside experts to conduct a line-by-line audit of government books.

He says the inquiry will provide answers on what went wrong with the province’s finances, while the audit will shed light on how the government can fix those issues.

Finance minister Vic Fedeli was also part of the announcement.

He says the report has a deadline of August 30th and will cost $150,000.

“The work these commissioners will due is completely independent from our office, from he Premier’s office, or anybody else in government. The people will see the exact same report the premier will see, that we will see.”

It’s also being announced, the Progressive Conservative government is accepting outside bids from experts to audit the government’s books line-by-line.
