Some hefty praise for the city and Canadore College from a couple of producers with the feature film “The Rest of Us”.

The movie, which stars Heather Graham, just wrapped up shooting and is moving into the post-production phase.

Line Producer Coral Aiken says North Bay is set up well, and welcoming to the film industry.

“I’ve filmed everywhere from Saskatchewan to Victoria, I just shot a movie in Istanbul, the support here and the vibe of welcoming film here is incredible, it’s top notch,” she says.

Aiken also says Canadore is an incredible post-secondary school that is “churning out some really amazing filmmakers”.

Lead Producer Katie Nolan says they had a great time filming here.

“It was a dream, North Bay gave us everything we needed from locations, to crew, to cast, to weather, to great food,” she says.

“The Rest of Us”, directed by Aisling Chin-Yee, is the first feature for Babe Nation Creations, a female-driven company that is about ‘championing female voices behind and in front of the camera.’

Nolan says the drama is about two mother-daughter duos forced to contend with their grief and feelings for each other when the man who connects them all suddenly dies.

She says it’s filled with comedy and raw emotion that is an accurate portrayal of women, with love surfacing out of the ugliest of places.

The script, written by Alanna Francis, was a quarter-finalist of the 2016 Academy Nicholl Prize.

Aiken says they feel the film is well-positioned for the Festival circuit and they’re looking at coming back to North Bay for a screening, too.

After a festival-run, with the goal being Sundance, Nolan says they’re aiming for a summer release to theatres next year.
